Module

What is a Module?

We are basing our displays on modules, the idea being that any custom build - needs building blocks.

A module simply refers to a single unit of content - a content module, or the technology used to tell that story - a system module.

Modular in Both System and Content...

The number of modules used, the layout of modules, the style of modules and the stories told are all at the discretion of the venue.

Because of this a completely custom display can built to fit any location and fulfil any need that an institute, venue or individual may have.

Licensing fees are based on a combination of factors, not a simple fixed cost per module. Some modules may contain interactive VR, whereas others a more simple image or video.

A World Class Display

Whilst we have sorted our archive by species and taxonomically, we have also further sorted our archive by behaviour and characteristic. Be it feeding or mating, camouflage or standout, coral reef or deep sea...

We can create a world class display, engaging an audience on a any one of a countless number of marine stories.

Layout

Due to the building block nature of a display - we can create an exhibit that fits any shape be it a plain square room, or an awkward alcove half way up the staircase...

Some of the Benefits...

Digital

Our modular display system is specifically designed to fit any venues location. We don't require a fixed space to tell a story - we help support a venue in catering their display and story telling ability to the physical space they want to use.

Every module we help support will be digital. With the benefit of refresh-ability we can work with a venue to not only tell stories we have curated and stored, but adapt a display to show topical and trending stories from our oceans.

We are in talks with venues to create displays on the basis that it is completely 'swapped out' on either a 6 month or a 12 month basis.

The beauty of this, is that it allows a customer to visit a venue or exhibit twice (or more) within the same year, and get a new and fresh experience.

Cost

All displays will have a low level of maintenance required. All will be operated and controlled from a central hub.  There won't be a need for animal catchers, technicians or filter pumps to keep a modular display running.

In relation to other exhibits, be it an aquarium or a museum, we can keep the cost of our displays to a minimum - yet still captivate an audience just the same.

We will work with a venue, whether a company or charity, to create a package that suits both parties and enables us to move forward in some form or another.

Dwell Time

Dwell time is key to the successful function of any display. When a dwell time is known, not only can predicted revenue become a more known entity, but how to control the masses becomes far easier.

In knowing the likely dwell time of an audience - per module, the number of viewers over any time period can be controlled. In designing a display, a venue can ensure that there is no 'pile up'.

Whilst COVID doesn't come with the same restrictions as venues previously experienced, it is still a factor to consider.

Any modular display can easily be designed or adapted to a one way, one flow system ensuring should the world ever enter another pandemic, venues have an ability to combat the pressures of keeping the lights on.

Archive

The size of our archive and the contribution is the basis of our displays. In having the backing of one of the largest marine and freshwater archives in the world we are confident we can share material, on a 6 month refresh rate, for many many years to come...

Due to the volume of contribution to The Open Ocean Group, we can safely say no-one else has the scope, size or variety of archive that we hold. Because of this we are confident we can tell stories, other wise untold...

Furthermore, the archive is ever growing. In line with a completely digital system, we can adapt to modern findings and discoveries as supported by our current contributors out in the water.

Feedback

Our Modular Display system and licensing plan is still in its infancy. We would love to hear more feedback on what an individual or venue, would question, alter or add to a modular display project. Any and all feedback is more than welcome!
